Updating patient pronouns in the Abridge web editor ensures your clinical note uses the correct gender pronouns for your patient. Abridge will attempt to detect pronouns automatically from the recorded conversation — you can also set or change them manually at any time.
Note: Pronouns set in Abridge apply to the clinical note only. They are not reflected in the patient chart in Epic or any other system.
How it works
During the recorded encounter, Abridge's AI listens for preferred pronouns. If pronouns are mentioned or disclosed during the visit, they will be applied to the generated note automatically. You can always review and adjust the selection manually in the web editor before sending your note to Epic.
How to update pronouns
- Open the note in the Abridge web editor at notes.abridge.com.
- Locate the pronoun toggle next to the patient's name in the center section of the notes panel.
- Select the appropriate pronoun set: she/her, he/him, or they/them.
- The note will update to reflect the selected pronouns.
Not available on mobile: Pronoun selection is available in the Abridge web editor on a desktop or laptop. It is not available in the Abridge for Clinicians mobile app.
