How it works
No language selection or configuration is required before recording. Abridge automatically detects the language spoken during the encounter and outputs a complete English clinical note. This applies whether the clinician, patient, interpreter, or caregiver is speaking.
For visits involving an interpreter or multiple speakers, see Recording with multiple people in the room.
High-performing languages
High-performing languages are languages that Abridge's machine learning science team has dedicated significant time and resources to evaluate, benchmark, and optimize models against. For these languages, Abridge achieves approximately 1% absolute improvement in Word Error Rate (WER) compared to leading state-of-the-art models.
If a recording is mis-transcribed, the original audio is available in the web editor so you can review what was said and ensure your note captures all critical details.
FAQs
Do I need to select a language before recording?
No. Abridge detects the spoken language automatically. No setup or configuration is required.
What language will my clinical note be in?
All notes are generated in English, regardless of the language spoken during the encounter.
What if the transcript looks incorrect?
Open the transcript in the web editor and compare it against the original audio using Linked Evidence. If a section of the note does not reflect what was said, you can edit it directly. Contact help@abridge.com if transcription issues persist.
