These tips will help you get consistent, accurate results when building and using custom Physical Exam (PE) templates in Abridge.
To create or manage custom templates, see Physical Exam templates.
Use full system names
Use complete, commonly recognized names for system headings rather than abbreviations. Abridge uses heading names to match spoken content to the correct section — abbreviated or informal names can produce inconsistent results.
- Use Cardiovascular rather than CV or Cardio
Start with a General section
Begin your custom template with a General section to capture overall patient assessment. This provides a reliable section for observations that don't map to a specific system.
Create sex-specific templates for sensitive findings
If your exam includes pelvic, genitourinary, rectal, or breast findings, create separate female-specific and male-specific templates rather than combining them. This keeps each template focused and avoids generating sections that aren't relevant to the patient.
